Description
Indications:
Tramadol hydrochloride is an opioid analgesic and is administered for the treatment of pain of moderate to severe intensity which did not respond to alternative treatments. These alternative treatments include both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
Mechanism of Action:
It is a synthetic analgesic and its structure is like codeine and morphine. In the central nervous system (brain), it weakly binds to µ opioid receptors (i.e. µ agonist), and increases pain tolerance. It also blocks nociceptive (pain) impulses at the level of spinal cord by inhibiting noradrenalin and serotonin uptake (i.e. serotonin antagonist).
