Description
Indications:
In adults, the recommended dose of zopiclone tablets is 3.75 mg. It is taken before bedtime and is used for the treatment of recurrent episodes of insomnia. It is used for short duration only and helps people who find it hard to fall asleep or end up waking up multiple time during their sleep. It also helps relieve insomnia due to psychiatric illnesses. This drug however should not be administered alone, and a holistic approach must be attained for treating all such patients.
Mechanism of Action:
Although zopiclone is not structurally related to benzodiazepine, its affinity to GABA receptors renders it to exert its effect like benzodiazepine. After binding to these receptors, it opens chloride channels with high frequency. The resultant hyperpolarization then halts the generation of action potential.
